What is World Rainforest Day?
World Rainforest Day is on June 22, 2021 to bring awareness and advocacy to a precious resource on Earth - our rainforests! With three days of virtual events and resources from the World Resource Day Organization, there is much to learn about our rainforests!
What Do Rainforests Have to Do With Coffee?
Great question! Because coffee thrives in a tropical environment, coffee beans are grown mostly in the various rainforests of the world. That means that a lot of deforestation happens for that cup of java you drink in the morning.
For every cup of coffee consumed, almost one square inch of rainforest had to be destroyed. (Source)
A square inch may not seem like that much, but we see you refilling that coffee mug all day everyday. Now think about how many coffee lovers there are out there! Deforestation causes a ripple effect to the rainforest ecosystem that affects wildlife, plants, climate, and more.
What is Tayst Doing to Help?
Tayst Coffee Roasters is Rainforest Alliance Certified! That means that we source our coffee beans from coffee farms or groups that work with the Rainforest Alliance. The Rainforest Alliance helps to improve the livelihood and wellbeing of these farm communities, and annually audits the farms with their rigorous standards. Their main goals are to protect biodiversity, deliver financial benefits to farmers, and give the farm and its community the respect they deserve.
In addition to sourcing our coffee from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms, we found a way to enjoy morning coffee while also giving back to the Earth. The Tayst coffee pods that house our delicious coffee are 100% compostable and plastic-free. When you switch to Tayst, you can refill that coffee mug all day everyday and feel great about it. The Earth will thank you too!
